Here’s why Casino Royale is still the best Bond movie.Ĭasinos are an inherently exciting setting Skyfall is a more effective celebration of the franchise in its entirety, and Spectre may boast more flamboyant setpieces, but Casino Royale integrates everything fans love about Bond into a package that’s easier to swallow if you have no taste for the over-the-top antics of Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan. To this day, Casino Royale remains the best James Bond movie, despite a host of contenders for that throne. Die Another Day’s invisible car was so poorly-received that it led indirectly to the franchise’s rebirth in 2006’s Casino Royale, which recast Bond in the Bourne mould gritty, edgy, and grounded in reality. The highs – Skyfall, Goldfinger, GoldenEye – are incredible, while the lows are excruciating. The James Bond franchise is the very definition of variable quality. ![]()
